What I did today

Today, I learned about important computer terms like BIOS and POST.

  • BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) is firmware that initializes hardware when a computer starts and provides the necessary instructions to load the operating system. It’s like the computer’s built-in control center that ensures everything is working before the system fully boots.
  • POST (Power-On Self-Test) is a diagnostic process the computer performs during startup. It checks that all critical hardware components, like memory and the hard drive, are functioning properly before the operating system loads.

I also practiced entering the BIOS using a virtual machine in VirtualBox. I learned how to access the BIOS settings by pressing specific keys (like F2, DEL, or ESC) while the virtual machine is booting up.

What I Did Today

Today, I began by researching and summarizing 3 job listings to post to CTP’s skill center page for CTP participants to consider applying to. In the next hour, I practiced my typing speed as part of my professional skills development goals, and I more or less matched my speed from the end of last week. I’m hoping to bring it up from 49 wpm to 51 wpm by the end of the week, while still maintaining an average of 95% accuracy or higher. Next, I tried researching CTP Alumni to see if I could find any from 1984 that had LinkedIn profiles. I was mostly unsuccessful, although I did find one page which was a near miss, because they listed a similar sounding institution in their education section, and around the same year, and the name matched that on the list of graduates. The rest of the rime I spent researching new companies or rehab centers to add to the list of potential CTP partners to reach out to. I spent a lot of time on the B-Corp listings page using various keywords that I hadn’t used before.
