What Today Held

Today was smooth! I was able to record my portfolio presentation and I think I am happy with the results. I never usually hear myself talking very much so I will be interested to find out. I was doing my canva project on the history of books, stories and how words exist to all of us differently yet we have cultivated understandings between us in majorities. However, giving the description right now is too many words. I’ve switched my project to Sourdough starter and sourdough bread. Realistically, the way I am, the conversation and the point of the sourdough information will most likely run long (in the same way my speaking voice does).

Today we started off with talking about our tech articles. Normally we would do this tomorrow, but because of mock interviews tomorrow we have to do it today. It went well. Lots of interesting topics like using LIDAR and AI to quickly get data on a massive flood affecting Indiana, using AI to analyze mammograms, mine on digital problems effecting libraries, and how Microsoft is having to do a lot more work to keep up with AI vibe hackers (even though Microsoft laid off a lot of people).

Then it was back to the grindstone with the Networking Lab. I’ve gotten pretty far though I did make a mistake where I put 19.168.0.1 for an IP address when I meant 192.168.0.1. Luckily it was an easy mistake to make and to fix so its all good. And it added a bit of levity to my ticket.

Making Videos

Using DaVinci Resolve, which is a free video editing program. The program has its perks for sure, but if you move a file or add a file in the folder, it can throw things off in the video. It relies heavily on where the files are located. So if you learn this program, make sure not to make changes to the files, or your video will be wonky. Just a learning curve that I wanted to pass on to the next person. DaVinci allows you to break apart movies and clips so you can use what you want. Just make sure that you are using copyrighted items, or you can not post and definitely cannot sell them. But the experience of making videos to promote CTP is satisfying and fun, after the huffs and puffs of the program difficulties.

What I Did Today

In PRO today, we started with typing and went over another new Canva project, the new CTP flyer. I don’t have a lot of experience with Canva, so I went with a template that contained a text area superimposed over an image, which I made the image of Ed Roberts Campus. It was pretty simple to get the CTP logo in an image file and add that to the flyer, as well. Certain things about Canva I didn’t like, such as editing or moving the text boxes without causing confusion about how to resize or realign the text. Most of the buttons are the same as in Google Slides, but the interface is a little more tricky.

For the remainder of class time, I worked on Canva again for the presentation assignment due Thursday. Yesterday, I wasn’t sure what subject I would do my presentation on. Today, I decided to do it on “How to Sell Ice Cream.” I got the idea from a retail storefront in a nearby, distressed building for rent, thinking to myself what business would go great in there. I didn’t put anything about the property in my presentation, however. I just did the presentation on how to sell ice cream, in general.

What Today Held

Class today was fun. We were able to work on creating CTP flyers as well as getting our Canva strategies moving and grooving. I had a good day in class and accepted that formatting does take me a good amount of time, so I know to continuously work on my Thursday projects to ensure they arrive on time. Otherwise, it was a pretty awesome chill day of working through new items and learning more formatting tips and tricks for myself. Excited to record my portfolio speech tomorrow as I took so much time handling it myself. I went over it three million times, lol… fun lesson though!
